NDCC Reoganization Meeting - A Primer

It's that time again for Newton Dems to elect their local Party leadership.  Every two years members of all the ward Committees gather at an "organizational meeting" to choose officers of the Newton Democratic City Committee.

If you are a member of a Ward Committee please make an effort to attend on Thursday, April 15 at 7:00 pm at the Newton North High School Auditorium.

Are you a new member and wondering what this is all about?  Been there before but want a refresher? Take a moment to read the primer below and let us know if you have any questions.

What is the "Newton Democratic City Committee"

What officers are we going to elect?
Check out the home page here.

What are the officers' term and what do they do?
Terms are two years - see our bylaws for more information on specific roles and responsibilities.

Who can run for NDCC office?
Any person who is a current member of one of Newton's eight Democratic Ward Committees.  You can be an elected, appointed or 20-year member to vote in the election.  If you are not a member but would like to join, click here.

Who can vote in the election?
The same people who can run for NDCC office - NDCC members.

How does the meeting work?
Individuals are nominated and seconded for specific offices by NDCC members present at the meeting. If the nominee(s) accepts, they may then say a few words before the Committee votes on the candidate(s) for the specific office.  The candidate who receives a majority vote wins and is elected to the office for a term of two years.  Nominations and votes are held for each office.
